Canada risks "severe economic and social consequences" without improvements to its science, technology, and innovation ecosystem, according to a Council of Canadian Academies expert panel report, chaired by Ilse Treurnicht, entrepreneur and former CEO of MaRS Discovery District. Lagging R&D spending declining productivity, and failure to translate research into commercial success threaten Canada's economic prosperity and standard of living.
